Kavinkumar clear first at 3rd Sri Chess Academy Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2025

Kavinkumar G scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 3rd Sri Chess Academy Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Satyanarayana P scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. Niranjan Mochalra, Kannan V, Lanka Marthanda Kumar and Satyajit Sarkar scored 7.5/9 each. They secured third to sixth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹40000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each respectively. The three-day nine-round Swiss league rating tournament was organized by Sri Chess Academy at S3 Sports Arena in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh from 24th to 26th January 2025. Top seed domination

Niranjan Mocharla and the top seed of the tournament, Kavinkumar G were the coleaders 7.5/8, heading into the last round. Niranjan lost to Kavinkumar and the latter became champion, the former finished third. Satyanarayana P defeated Kishore V to secure second place. 12-year-old Sriram Jayin Vakada scored 7/9 to finish ninth. He is the youngest top ten finisher of the event.

A total of 391 players took part from various parts of India, one from Australia and USA each. The three-day nine round Below 1800 Rating tournament was organized by Sri Chess Academy at S3 Sports Arena in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh from 24th to 26th January 2025. The time control of the event was 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
