Suyog Wagh victorious at Smt. Arunatai Devidasji Jagnade Smruti Rapid Rating Open 2025
FM Suyog Wagh scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win Smt. Arunatai Devidasji Jagnade Smruti Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Four players - IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam, Shaunak Badole, Nihaan Pohane and Nachiket Paturkar scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹17000 and ₹12000 along with a trophy each respectively. The top seed of the tournament, FM Suyog Wagh was the sole leader 7.5/8, going into the last round. IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam and Nihaan Pohane were the only two players trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. Suyog drew with Ramnathan to become a clear champion, the latter secured second place. Shaunak Badole defeated Salik Nawaz Manihaar to finished third.
A total of 228 players including an IM took part from various states all across the country. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Bramhapuri Taluka Chess Association at Vitthal Rukmini Sabhagruha in Bramhapuri, Maharashtra on 11th and 12th January 2025. The time control of the event was 20 minutes + 5 seconds increment from move no.1.
