Swapnaneel Dowerah triumphs at DDCA Golden Jubilee Rapid Rating Open 2025
Swapnaneel Dowerah scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win DDCA Golden Jubilee Rapid Rating Open 2025. Five players - Rintu Brahma, Abhirup Saikia, Neelabh Jyoti Borthakur, Bijit Chetia and Dhruv Phukan scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. Swapnaneel defeated Rintu in the penultimate and drew with Abhirup in the last round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹160000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹13000 along with a trophy each respectively. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Duliajan Anchalik Chess Association in association with Dibrugarh District Chess Association at St. Xavier's H S School in Duliajan, Assam on 11th and 12th January 2025. Swapnaneel's first rating tournament victory of his career
Swapnaneel Dowerah was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the final round. The bank officer by profession, hailing from Dibrugarh district, drew with Abhirup Saikia, to become a clear champion. Abhirup finished third. Dhruv Phukan shared the point with Rintu Brahma and the latter secured second place.
A total of 277 players took part from various places of Assam, Manipur and one from England. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Duliajan Anchalik Chess Association in association with Dibrugarh District Chess Association at St. Xavier's H S School in Duliajan, Assam on 11th and 12th January 2025. The time control of the event was 25 minutes + 10 seconds increment from move no.1.
