Kumar Gaurav wins Shephali Memorial Rating Open 2025

FM Kumar Gaurav, Iftikar Alom Mazumdar, Apollosana Mangang Rajkumar and Rahul Gurung scored 8/9 each at Shephali Memorial Rating Open 2025. Kumar won the tournament due to better tie-break scores. The remaining three were placed second to fourth respectively. Kumar drew with both runners-up. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹350000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹35000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each respectively. The six-day ten round Rating Open tournament was organized by Bijoyee Sangha in association with Cachar District Chess Association at Ashirbad Vibaha Bhawan in Silchar, Assam from 10th to 15th January 2025. Kumar wins two in-a-row

FM Kumar Gaurav won a two-day Blitz Open tournament in a dominating fashion, scoring 8.5/9 and finished a full point ahead of the rest. In the Classical Rating Open, the top seed of the event, FM Kumar Gaurav was the sole leader 7.5/9, heading into the final round. He drew with Abhrojyoti Nath to become the champion. Iftikar Alom Mazumdar defeated Nikhil Kumar to secure second place. Koshin Das lost to Apollosana Mangang Rajkumar and the latter finished third. 13-year-old Debarati Dey scored an impressive 7/10 to finish fifth. She is the only girl among the top ten finishers of the event.

A total of 133 players took part from various states all across the country. The six-day ten round Rating Open tournament was organized by Bijoyee Sangha in association with Cachar District Chess Association at Ashirbad Vibaha Bhawan in Silchar, Assam from 10th to 15th January 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
